Unbelievable Villa Omkara: My Ubud Bali Dream… Mostly! (A Review with a Side of Rambling)
Okay, so Bali. Ubud. The land of yoga, rice paddies, and Instagram perfection, right? Well, Unbelievable Villa Omkara mostly lives up to the hype. Let me tell you, this place… it’s a trip. And not just the good kind. Buckle up, buttercups, because this review is gonna be as messy and delicious as a Balinese Nasi Goreng.
First Impressions (and a slight panic):
Arrival was… interesting. After a slightly hair-raising (by that airport transfer, mind you!) journey from the airport, the villa’s entrance is stunning. Lush greenery, that classic Balinese architecture, a genuinely welcoming doorman. But then… the check-in. While supposedly contactless (a BIG plus these days, thanks to the world being a bit… germy, okay?), it felt a tad… rushed. They whisked us through, dropping a brochure, and pointing us toward our chosen haven. I remember thinking, "I hope they can actually cater to a disabled guest." I mean, the website boasted Facilities for disabled guests… fingers crossed.
(Spoiler Alert!) We did get a room on the ground floor, and the general accessibility was pretty good. Elevators? Check. Wide doorways? Check. Grabbing the handle of the big doors proved to be a struggle. Otherwise, Omkara isn't bad for accessibility. The pool, however… was all stairs.
Rooms (And My Deep, Dark Secret About Blackout Curtains):
Our room was… wow. Seriously. Think spacious, with a private balcony overlooking the rice paddies. (I'm not exaggerating, this is Ubud, after all!) The Air Conditioning blasted icy relief the moment we stepped in, the bed was massive, and the Blackout Curtains… oh, the blackout curtains. They are my love. My life. My barrier against the sun's judgment. I need these things. I sleep like the dead. These were top-notch. I felt like a vampire in a five-star resort, and I loved it.
The bathroom was gorgeous, with a walk-in shower, and a bathtub. (You know, for those times you just need to soak.) The complimentary toiletries, bathrobes, and slippers added a touch of luxury that I'd forgotten existed. I felt pampered, and quite frankly, kind of smug.
Accessibility Shout-Out: The room was thoughtfully designed, with easy-to-navigate spaces. It did feel a bit cramped by the lack of space at the door to get into the room itself. But overall, a solid thumbs up for accessibility.
"Things to Do" (Because, Bali!) – And My Near-Death Experience With a Body Wrap:
So, the Things to Do section is where Omkara seriously shines. They have pretty much everything. A glorious, sprawling swimming pool (with a Poolside Bar – vital!), a fitness center, a spa, a sauna, a steamroom, and a bunch of treatments offered.
I, being a sucker for pampering, immediately booked a Body Wrap. Now, I’ve had body wraps before, but this… this was an experience. The woman slathered me in… something. Seaweed? Mud? Alien goo? I honestly haven't the foggiest idea. And then, she wrapped me in plastic, like a giant, squishy burrito.
The next thing I knew, I was melting. Not literally, but it felt awfully close. I started to sweat… intensely. The room got hotter. I got hotter. I began to panic. My claustrophobia kicked in. I started picturing myself as a rapidly-cooked, slightly-green, human dumpling. It was probably just 5 minutes of that, but it felt like an hour. Finally, I managed to mumble something about… well, I couldn't actually remember because the room had transformed, in my mind, to a steam room, and she un-wrapped me. I emerged, a glistening, semi-digested mess. It was… intense.
The rest of the facilities were great: The gym was well-equipped (though I'm more of a "watch TV and eat snacks" kind of person), the Spa was heavenly (once I recovered from my body wrap trauma), and the Pool with a View was the perfect spot for a sunset cocktail.
Food & Drink (Because, Calories):
Ah, the food. The restaurants offer a mix of Asian cuisine and International cuisine, and the Breakfast [buffet] was… a mixed bag, if I'm honest. There was a ton to chose from, but it's the typical problem with buffets, a bunch of it was lukewarm.
They made a great coffee/tea in the restaurant, and I enjoyed the Happy Hour at the Poolside Bar, and there's a Snack Bar if you need a quick fix.
There’s Room service [24-hour]! And honestly, sometimes you just need a mini-bar to yourself. Some of the smaller snacks were great, you should check out the bottle of water as well.
The restaurants themselves, while offering A la carte, and Buffet options, I wouldn’t say they were amazing. The Salad in restaurant had a bit of an off taste. I wouldn't necessarily spend a whole vacation eating there.
Cleanliness and Safety (Because, COVID-19 and a General Sense of Existential Dread):
Listen, in these times, Cleanliness and safety are paramount. Omkara understood the assignment. They were all over it. Staff trained in safety protocol, Daily disinfection in common areas, Hand sanitizer everywhere, Anti-viral cleaning products, Room sanitization between stays. I felt safe. More than safe, actually – I felt like I was living in a highly sanitized bubble far away from all the nasty germs of the outside world. They even have Cashless payment service, which is always a win. They had all the standard stuff: Fire extinguisher, Security [24-hour], CCTV in common areas and outside the property.
And I was very glad I could be there and not miss out on all the perks of the villa: There's a doctor/nurse on call, and a first aid kit,.
Services and Conveniences (Because, Convenience is King):
Omkara offers a ton of Services and conveniences. Daily housekeeping, Laundry service, Dry cleaning, Concierge, Cash withdrawal, Currency exchange, and a Convenience store, all designed to make life easier. There's also a Gift/souvenir shop (gotta bring back those cheesy t-shirts, am I right?).
Internet (My Digital Detox Was a Lie):
Let's be honest, one of the promises of Bali is unplugging. Embracing the digital detox. Yeah, right. The good news is Free Wi-Fi in all rooms! and in public areas, too. The Internet access was pretty decent, and I didn't encounter any major issues. Thank goodness, because resisting the urge to scroll through social media while gazing at rice paddies is a near-impossible feat. . Getting Around (Because, Ubud is Big):
Omkara offers things like Airport transfer, Taxi service, and Car park [free of charge]. They also have Valet parking, for you fancy folks!
(Random Thought - and Why I'm Glad They Had CCTV):
Walking back to my room one evening, I noticed a slightly… shady… character lurking around. It was dark, and the air was thick. I was slightly tipsy. I hurried inside and, thankfully, I noticed the CCTV in common areas and CCTV outside property. It made me feel a lot safer.
For the Kids (I Don't Have Any, But…):
They have Babysitting service, and some Kids facilities. I don't have kids, but I saw families there, and everyone seemed happy.
The Good, the Bad, and the "Body Wrap" Ugly:
So, Unbelievable Villa Omkara. Is it truly unbelievable? Well, kind of. It's certainly beautiful, luxurious, and packed with amenities. The staff is lovely, and the location is perfect for exploring Ubud. It's well equipped and makes you feel pampered; the soundproof rooms are a blessing. The non smoking rooms are a must!
The accessibility is good, but could be improved. The food, while plentiful, wasn’t always amazing. And… that body wrap. Dear God, the body wrap!
But overall, I’d absolutely recommend it. Just… maybe skip the body wrap unless you're feeling adventurous. And embrace the messiness. Because Bali is meant to be savored, imperfections and all.
Final Verdict: 4 out of 5 stars. (Minus one star for almost turning me into a human dumpling.)

Villa Omkara: Ubud, Bali - A Wanderer's Loose Guide (a.k.a. Expect Chaos, Embrace the Fun)
Day 1: Arrival & Immediate Bliss (and a Near-Disaster with Coffee)
Morning (7:00 AM-ish): Arrive at Denpasar Airport (DPS). The air hits you first - humid, fragrant with frangipani, and already whispering promises of adventure. Immigration? A breeze! Customs? Slightly less so. Let's just say my suitcase had a very intimate encounter with a local customs officer. Thankfully, charm (and a small, strategically placed gift of appreciation) got me through.
Mid-Morning (9:00 AM-10:00 AM): Transportation to Villa Omkara. The drive! Oh, the drive. Winding through rice paddies that look like emerald carpets, past motorbikes piled high with everything imaginable (including entire families), and feeling completely, utterly alive. The driver, Gede, was a legend, regaling me with tales of Balinese life and expertly dodging the scooter kamikazes.
Late Morning/Early Afternoon (11:00 AM-2:00 PM): Villa Check-In & OMG. Seriously, OMG. Villa Omkara. The photos? They don't do it justice. The infinity pool shimmering, the jungle whispering secrets, the staff – Ibu and Komang – beaming smiles. I think I spent a solid hour just pacing the grounds, muttering "I can't believe this is real." This is what escaping reality feels like.
Lunch (2:00 PM - 3:00 PM): Okay, the first mistake. Ordering coffee immediately. Apparently, I can't make my own. I was thinking of making a classic Indonesian Coffee, a mix of coffee and sugar. Instead, I stumbled upon something that tasted like burnt asphalt mixed with sadness. The staff, bless their hearts, pretended to enjoy it. Lesson learned: Indonesian coffee is NOT my friend. Later, I got myself a proper Bintang and an amazing Nasi Goreng. Saved. My. Day.
Afternoon (3:00 PM - 6:00 PM): Pool time! Sunbathing! Just…breathing. Reading (attempting to read, anyway. Every few minutes, I'd have to stop just to stare at the view again). Absolutely nothing, and it was the most fulfilling activity of the day.
Evening (6:00 PM-Late): Dinner prepared in the villa by a local chef. A feast! Everything was incredible, from the sate lilit to the Gado-Gado. Wine, conversation, and the sounds of the jungle lulling me to sleep. Bliss. Until…a rogue gecko decided to explore my mosquito net. Let's just say I'm not a fan of uninvited houseguests, especially those of the reptilian variety. Screams (mine) and a panicked Komang (the hero!). Good times.
Day 2: Culture Shock, Monkey Business, and a Massage That Changed My Life
Morning (8:00 AM): Okay, this is where the plan slightly unravels. I intended to wake up early to catch the sunrise over the rice paddies with a coffee to wash it all down. Instead, I woke up late to the chirping of birds, still tired from the gecko-induced insomnia.
Mid-Morning (9:30 AM): Ubud exploration! First stop: The Ubud Market. Sensory overload! Incense, colors, bartering (which I am terrible at, but the experience was worth it, even if I did get ripped off on that "genuine" batik scarf that probably came from a factory). The people are friendly! So friendly! They make you feel welcome.
Late Morning (10:30 AM): The Monkey Forest! I really wish I'd listen to the tour guide. Don't stare! Don't smile! Don't hold anything! I foolishly had a water bottle in my hand. Let me tell you, a monkey will come for you. It was a brief, terrifying, but ultimately hilarious interaction. All that I learned from the monkey: don't be an idiot.
Lunch (1:00 PM): Had lunch at a cute cafê called "Soma" in Ubud that specializes in vegan food. It didn't last because I'm not really into healthy food, I wanted to feel full!
Afternoon (2:00 PM - 5:00 PM): The Massage. The most important part of today. I got one of the traditional Balinese massages at a local spa nearby that was out of this world. It was like a symphony of aches dissolving into pure relaxation. The masseuse, a tiny woman with the hands of a goddess, worked out knots I didn’t even know I had! I was so relaxed that I fell asleep and started snoring. Not embarrassing at all. I literally floated back to the villa.
Evening (6:00 PM - Late): Cooking class! I'm not a whiz in the kitchen, but this was a fun (and delicious) experience. Learning to make traditional dishes, learning about spices. This time, the coffee was much better (maybe because I didn't make it myself!). Back at the villa: the stars! The silence! Pure, unadulterated magic. And, hopefully, a gecko-free night.
Day 3: Temples, Temples, and Possibly More Temples (and a Near-Disastrous Scooter Rental)
Morning (9:00 AM): Okay, I'm feeling ambitious today. The plan: visit a few temples! First stop: Tirta Empul Temple. The water purification ritual was beautiful and peaceful. Not gonna lie, I chickened out of the full immersion (the water was cold!), but just watching everyone else was moving.
Late Morning (11:00 AM): Breakfast. Rice pudding and fruit, and a strong black coffee (yes, I'm trying again! Still not great, but better this time), sitting on the deck, listening to nature.
Mid-Day (12:00 PM): The Scooter Saga. Oh, boy. I thought I was ready to conquer the Bali roads. I was wrong. I rented a scooter. It was a rickety thing, but it got me to the next temple.
Afternoon (1:00 PM): Lunch! Found a lovely little Warung near a temple. I had some Nasi Campur that was divine.
More Afternoon (2:00 PM-4:00 PM): Visiting Pura Gunung Kawi temple and the rice terraces. The views are unbelievable, but the scooters are also a pain in the butt to move along the slopes. The temple was beautiful, but the place felt overwhelming, so I didn't stay there for long.
Late Afternoon (4:00 PM): More riding! I got back to the Villa, and it was a relief.
Evening (7:00 PM): Dinner in Ubud: trying to find something fancy but it was too fancy, I end up eating at a Warung.
Day 4: Relaxation, Reflection, and the Inevitable Sadness of Leaving
Morning (9:00 AM): Sleep in! After all of the activities from yesterday, I needed that! A little time on the terrace, doing nothing but enjoying the sun.
Mid-day (10:00 AM-12:00 AM): Another massage? Yes, please! The best way to spend time on a vacation.
Afternoon (12:00 AM): Lunch, a quick meal, then a stroll through the rice fields near the villa. The sunset was indescribably beautiful
Evening (6:00 PM): Farewell dinner at the villa. Tears were shed. Happy ones, mostly, but the melancholy of departure was starting to creep in.
Day 5: Departure
- Morning (Early): Woke up. Packed. Said tearful goodbyes to the staff. One last look at the view – the magic is real, and I'm already dreaming of returning.
- Early Morning: Transportation to the airport.
- Day: Flight back home.
Notes & Imperfections:
- Pacing: This is just a suggestion. Do what feels right. Dwell in the beauty. Get lost.
- Food: Eat everything! Try everything! Even the coffee, maybe (though, seriously, be cautious).
- People: Talk to the locals! Learn a word of the language! They will make your time there extra special.
- Embrace the Unexpected: Because the best moments are the ones you can't plan.
